[He had not talked about his old cat during Freelancer. Yes, he was the kind of goober that kept a picture of his old cat - and also the family's most recent cat - in his locker instead of the pin ups some of the others had, but he hadn't talked about him. He wanted to try to look cool after making it to the cool kids table.]

[So he's a little shocked to find out he trusted someone with a memory from his childhood.]

Loki was our cat.

[He's a little hesitant at first - at this stage of his life he's not exactly a sharer. But he gains momentum as he goes.]

That cat had more than nine lives. Got into all kinds of trouble.

One time he was stuck in a tree, and my dad tried to get him down himself instead of calling the fire department like my mom suggested. Accidentally cut the branches right into some power lines.

Loki's electrocuted, falls 30 feet, lands right on his feet, and walks away like nothing happened.

[He's actually getting into it now, sharing the memory, glad to take a moment to remember it again. He forgets for a second that this is to verify that he's himself, and it feels more natural, like he and Carolina just...talk this way. For a moment he sounds like himself, like the Wash Carolina knows.]

We found him in all kinds of places: in the dryer after my mom did some laundry, in the engine of my dad's truck. You get the idea. But despite it all that cat lived to be twenty-five years old. When it came to anything other than old age, he was practically immortal.

[He finally stops.]

I guess I told you about him?
