If I was the shapeshifter, that probably wouldn't help much. Unless you find a way to block all the vents, pipes, gaps in walls, holes, and any other potential methods of egress.

That said, I could voluntarily choose to remain in the tree for the duration of the emergency? That way if anyone sees me outside of it before this is over they can be sure it's definitely not me.
