007: AMAs, Third Round

So, we've got a load of new people, and that means it's time for me to do the only thing it feels like I get on these comms to do anymore: AMAs.

For you new people, I find it helps when we get together and explain a little bit about ourselves, any powers we have, and our skillsets. That way we know what we're starting with and what we can build off of. So, please, come and introduce yourselves and be willing to answer questions.

I put poledancing in as my training time. It's much more effective exercise than situps or those goddamn Planker rooms.

I meant before we got here. I don’t know anybody with a hobby, unless tv counts.

[Dan taps his finger against his lower lip, and his tone gets more serious.]

You gotta understand, Ric, I've worked a lot of odd jobs. A hobby's a qualification when you're trying to play piano at a bar or draw caricatures on a boardwalk. Hunting monsters pays ████ and I don't got a lot of options, given I don't read or got documentation. Ain't nobody gonna pay me to watch TV.

[ He’s had exactly two “real” jobs, because he suspects that X-Force and Excalibur don’t count as jobs.

And he doubts that an explanation about what the monster hunter needs is a bunch of sugar daddies willing to feed and house them all. ]

Believe me, if there was a job you could get for watching tv, I’d know. My ex would’ve killed for that.

[Dan grins.]

Who wouldn't? If only they tested TV shows for plot holes the way they test videogames for glitches, we'd have better entertainment and a lot of happy couch potatoes.

I don’t want to be a happy couch potato. If you can’t b&$@) about the plot holes and fight scenes, what’s the point?

I’m not sitting there for eight hours without someone saying “Julio. This is not how you riposte with a sabre.” I’ve started doing it myself.

Then you can be the plot-hole finder. If you're going to find them anyway, may as well get paid. [Dan uses watching movies as one of his many excuses to drink, naturally. It's the artichoke leaf to his butter.]

You got someone big on swordfight accuracy in your life?

[ It’s the what To his butter? Dan and Sam are making him reevaluate his taste in people. He used to think it was a mutant thing, being surrounded by odd characters, but it might be him. ]

I don’t think we have tv production in Krakoa.

[ And Jorgmund isn’t paying them for shit. ]

In a broad sense, yeah. He’s into swords, he’s just not as into my life right now.

Not an ideal scenic location to film?

[He's not sure where Krakoa is - he doesn't think it's ever come up - but he'd just assumed Ric was from somewhere in North America, probably the US, based on recognizable dialect.

From what Ric says, Dan's betting an ex. Or maybe a current partner just held so far away by Ric's being on the Rig. Either way, Dan doesn't know if there's a way to open the door for Ric to elaborate without inadvertently seeming patronizing.]

What about it ain't he into?

Idyllic, but there’s no mutant movie producers yet.

[ Yet, because he’s sure that’s on someone’s to do list. What would they even be about? Hallmark movies, but with mutants. ]

We’re allergic to stability or some shit.

We might could get you a videocamera and change that. [That's an idea; finding a good way to document the things happening here so that it's harder to get lied to and turned around by the Jorg, so that any tricks or secrets they find are harder to bury.

Then he laughs.] I wouldn't know anything about what that's like.

I’m not that into movies.

[ The vote of confidence is strange to him, because the idea of being a filmmaker is so outside of his experience. It’s like they’re talking about someone else.

He wants to defend himself and explain that he’s not the problem, but Ric isn’t comfortable blaming his ex.

Point taken. And the filming locations in this heap of bolts are a bit limited.

[Dan's deep enough in the minefield that he isn't sure how to find his way back out, so he tries to turn the conversation away from whatever sword-wielder has made Ric tender.]

I just meant I relate to being allergic to stability. Since I never stay nowhere longer than six weeks.
