007: AMAs, Third Round

So, we've got a load of new people, and that means it's time for me to do the only thing it feels like I get on these comms to do anymore: AMAs.

For you new people, I find it helps when we get together and explain a little bit about ourselves, any powers we have, and our skillsets. That way we know what we're starting with and what we can build off of. So, please, come and introduce yourselves and be willing to answer questions.

My name’s Robbie Baldwin, and I come from more than one of those superhero worlds. My original world’s a little like Armstrong’s, but we were never able to exactly line up teams and codenames. Just some near misses.

And, just so we’re clear, I’m on the superhero side. Let me save you the joke about that’s what a supervillain would say, because what they’d really do is tell you they’re just an average citizen. I’ll answer to Speedball, if anyone has a burning desire to use codenames.

I guess I generate kinetic energy that gets used to shield me and also can be directed at others. Uh, and I bounce. Like the shield makes me bounce, but it works for me.

Since it... kinda came up recently, part of the energy generation is that my nerves can convert pain into kinetic energy. If you ever see me seriously hurt, it’s okay to keep your distance.

Okay, the kinetic energy thing is fucking cool.

[ Pause. She feels kinda bad about what happened before. ]

...So I could like, throw you at someone and you could like, punch them and bounce back to me?

Thanks, but I can’t take credit for freak lab accidents.

[ Robbie’s not going to bring up the initial strife, as he apologized due to feeling bad over it. ]

And, yeah. But most people think it’s more fun to throw me at them like you’re a pitcher trying to take out Rodriguez and catch me on the rebound.
ragefeathers: (So I'm telling you)

[personal profile] ragefeathers 2021-01-12 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ha. Awesome. Gonna have to try that sometime when I'm big and furry.

It’s everyone’s third favourite party trick.
ragefeathers: (So I'm telling you)

[personal profile] ragefeathers 2021-01-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I'm curious about the first two.

1, legendary DJ skills.

[ There is no one to refute him here. ]

2, I can fill an entire gym with bouncy energy balls.

That sounds very dangerous. Is your ability stable?

[personal profile] walkingballpit 2021-01-13 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ There’s a pause before Robbie answers, and he sounds a little ashamed, no boisterous posturing or humor. ]

When I’m conscious or asleep, yeah, they’re stable. Even if I’m in a coma, it’s okay as long as the pain is managed. I’ve only lost control really lost control twice, and both times I was pretty messed up.

Like in a coma for days afterwards messed up. That’s why I’m warning everyone now. I can’t warn them then.
greyerrant: (Squinty)

[personal profile] greyerrant 2021-01-14 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Then in all sincerity, I appreciate your warning. What is the best way to protect ourselves in case of a catastrophic loss of control?

Get clear.

[ It’s said very simply. ]

I know that a lot of military types will say that a kill shot might be a better way to go, but we’re talking about an energy conversion that happens at almost the cellular level that I only lose control of when higher brain function goes bye-bye. Cells don’t die at brain death.

[ He’s not bothered at all by discussing killing him as an option, he just doesn’t think it would work. ]

While I am a soldier, I do not shoot my comrades if there is any safer option to be found. And I can move -very- swiftly if needed.

[ He nods his head ]

Forgive my questions, I know they were practical in a very grim way.

[personal profile] walkingballpit 2021-01-16 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Don’t worry about it. I’m the one who put it out there. I want people to ask questions if they need to, because getting skewered reminded me that I’m a lot more vulnerable than I’m used to.

And... thanks. For not planning on shooting me.

Is is both inefficient and inhumane. I try to avoid being either when I can, despite my work.
walkingballpit: (38)

[personal profile] walkingballpit 2021-01-27 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think you’re in the minority of military or agency types I’ve met. Definitely, actually. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard something get called inhumane.

[ Colour him intrigued. ]

I have had to do many things that were very distasteful in a fight for the future of humanity, and I have witnessed far worse. In a different time I may tell you about my cousins the War Hounds, but I think they would sadden you too much right now.

Maybe next time. I could go with some not-depressing stories, though. Practical jokes, fluffy animals, saving the day. Got anything like that?
