Appearing onscreen is a tall, gangly man who already looks fed up with this entire situation. He's not happy, and for that matter neither is the dragon behind him.]

Hi. Figured this is as good a place to introduce myself as any. I'm Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third, Chief of Berk. The dragon behind me is my best friend, Toothless.

Just to get it out of the way, yes, I have heard every possible joke you could make about that. None of them are funny.

Normally this would be the part where I'd say I'm happy to meet all of you, but my wife gave birth to our daughter two days ago. So while I can certainly think of worse possible times for all this, this one is still pretty high up there.

I've genuinely never seen either of you before, sorry. You're not the first one here to be disappointed by that, though, so I suspect you're in good company. Did you know a Brainiac 5?

You must be from slightly in our future. I haven't heard about a wedding registry or a call for baby gifts. Congratulations are in order for both, I should think.

Please try not to cause a paradox, if you don't mind. We'll have to figure out the exact timeline cut off when it comes to discussing events.

The timing is certainly unfortunate and I'd much prefer other Legionnaires be safely at home rather than stuck in these circumstances, but I can't say I'm not glad to see another familiar face. It's just Robbie and I so far.

Which, by the way, means none of the Freelancers recognize us, nor does Tucker. Dimensional alternates.

How much does Jorgmund know about the Legion, anyways? I kind of threw saving the multiverse in the interviewer's face, which I feel was entirely warranted after they kept shocking both me and Toothless-

[Toothless nods in agreement. If he could've gotten away with setting that guy on fire, he absolutely would have.]

Very little. They may put two and two together from the flight rings - or at least the replicas they made. They're definitely not made of Valorium.

But for now we can perhaps play off your comment as bluster and pretend we're not that effectual.

They do, however, have at least a small sense of my own capabilities. When I first arrived, I didn't see Robbie was here and thought I was the lone Legionnaire. So I triggered an explosion and a fire that made them evacuate the labs, rewired the door panel to let me in, and tried to use the technology there to disable the internal shock collars.

Unfortunately, we're in the stupid ages compared to the 31st century and I would've had to invent entire technologies from scratch, which I couldn't do in the time I had.

So it didn't quite work out as I'd hoped.

I've been banned from the labs ever since.

I could blame you if that's what you want, but then you wouldn't get to meet Toothless.

Sounds like keeping my metallokinesis under wraps was a good idea, then.

[He'd been waiting for a better lay of the land to bring that trick out. Especially since something felt the slightest bit off about it.]

Of course, keeping me away from scrap metal is a lot harder than keeping someone out of a room, but it's still probably for the best they don't know about it.

[Brainy perks up at that, his expression brightening even more.]

They let you loose in a rig made mostly of metal with no knowledge of the fact you can manipulate metal.

[He sounds very proud of him for his discretion.]

I have to admit, I'm pretty pleased with myself too.

[It hadn't really been that hard, though. Despite his tendency for drama, Hiccup was pretty surreptitious with his powers back home. Obvious usage would have invited comparisons that he really didn't want to deal with.]

Although don't count on me doing anything too crazy with them, though.

I mean, you can still count on me doing something crazy other ways. My powers feel weaker, though. Best guess without actually testing it? About as much as I can physically lift.

Which I can still do a lot with. Just, y'know, don't expect me to be tossing the Silver Surfer around again any time soon.

My own powers have shifted to a new power set, which is irritating.

Now I understand what some of the others went through, the displacees that had their powers changed.

My forcefields are gone. I now have a form of empathy, both receptive and projective, and a strange ability to animate objects but only if they have a humanoid shape. Haven't the faintest clue why it's those particular things.

[The young man that shows up on screen doesn't really have the polished look of the modern people here. His coarse hair looks unbrushed and is in a messy ponytail on top of his head. There are stained stripes on his biceps and shoulders that are visible due to the tank top. They look closer to war paint than any modern tattoos he might have seen in the 31st century, like the stripes the young Vikings put on when dragon racing.]

[He has two visible scars on his neck, though they healed cleanly. The slight burn scar on his cheek and the one on his arm are a little more gnarly, but mostly faded.]

[Guy's sitting on his bed, legs crossed, and he leans forward with interest, propping an elbow on his knee and leaning on his hand. He sets his comm to float mode.]

Oooh, you have your own death lizard.

[Because that is what you call a very large lizard.]

My family has a pet death cat back home. Similar size - or bigger. (Hard to tell from the screen.) Very pointy teeth.

Is he actually toothless or is that ironic?

Nice to meet you, Hiccup. Toothless. [her nod of greeting to the dragon is natural, unforced; she's seen dragons before and is accustomed to thinking of them as real, intelligent beings]

I don't think anyone here got yanked at a great time, but that must suck extremely. My condolences. If it helps, I think a couple people have actually gone home and then gotten bounced back because this place is the absolute fuckin' worst on toast, an' they said time moves different here? You might not lose as much as you're worried about.

And...eh. [Hiccup wiggles his hand a bit.] Little of both? His teeth are retractable.

So, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm guessing you're from a bit further back than most of us. Relatively, anyways.

[Guy holds up his hands placatingly.]

Sorry, sorry. Dragon. No offense meant, big guy.

[If Guy seems perfectly comfortable talking to animals like they're sentient...well, he is. Belt definitely ranks. And this dragon clearly can understand speech.]

And whether it's "most of you" depends. How far back are you personally from the early 2000-somethings?

Me personally? About a thousand years back. Or a thousand years forward if you feel like counting the last time something like this happened to me.

Ooooh, yeah I'm from waaay farther back.

This is my second nightmare future thing, too. [He assumes Hiccup's last one was also a nightmare, because his was, and his experience with other people was that almost all their future worlds seemed awful.] In the last one someone helped me figure things out and I'm probably... anywhere from ten thousand to a few tens of thousands of summers back from the 2000-somethings.

Or at least my world is a different world in a similar stage to the past of other worlds. One of my friends in the last world I was kidnapped to said there were people in his future that dug up and studied animal bones and they hadn't found anything like what we have.

[He ticks off fingers.]

But for full context: fire's still the hip new thing to some people, we're still on stone tools, no writing systems yet, and my parents' best friends just invented agriculture.

Berk. It's a charming little Viking village about 12 days north of Hopeless, a few degrees south of Freezing-to-Death, right smack dab on the Meridian of Misery.

It's a great vacation spot. Try the yaknog.

I'm from Redtown, in Seattle. It's a city on the northwest coast of America - great place to be, if you've got the money to live somewhere that isn't Redtown.

There were vikings way in the past, where I'm from. The dragons hadn't woken up then yet, though, so I don't think you're from my world's past. You guys do longboats and pointy helmets, or does it mean something else to you?

And yet? Somehow they still won't be funny.

Also? I hate to break it to you, but Toothless was eating fresh fish the entire time we were there.

[Toothless looks a little smug at this. As he probably should, considering he'd been eating better than anyone else on Legion World.]

[To be fair to Guy, he wasn't exactly far off with the nightmare world idea. The Legion had been pretty great, but that didn't mean the giant all-devouring interdimensional space worm hadn't put a significant damper on things.]

Not so far behind that I can't teach you a few things, then. If you think blacksmithing and leatherworking is something that'll come in handy, anyways.

You can teach me blacksmithing? Do you know how to - make the -you know the metal? Into metal? From, what's it called - ore, right?

And I can preserve a hide but not like future leather. It's not the same stuff and I've been wondering how people do it. Do you guys not use brains?

I can and I do. It's called smelting.

As for the leather, we use tree bark. Oak trees mostly. Or at least I do. There's another process that uses a metal called chromium, which might actually be the kind of future leather you're thinking of, but I've never got a chance to experiment with it.

It's something I found out about while I was in the 31st century, and by that time they really don't like using animal products.

[Not that Hiccup could exactly blame them, after learning about what exactly had led to that. It still meant his experience with future leather tanning techniques was somewhat lacking.]

[Hiccup paces a bit, thinking it over. It's not a pressing question, but it is an interesting one.

He doesn't really have any insights about the empathy powers, but the object animation does make a little bit of sense when looked at from the right angle.]

The Roboticans. Obviously it's not exactly the same thing since you're not actually bringing anything to life this time. It would definitely look that way from an outside perspective, though.
