007: AMAs, Third Round

So, we've got a load of new people, and that means it's time for me to do the only thing it feels like I get on these comms to do anymore: AMAs.

For you new people, I find it helps when we get together and explain a little bit about ourselves, any powers we have, and our skillsets. That way we know what we're starting with and what we can build off of. So, please, come and introduce yourselves and be willing to answer questions.

Hello, hello. I'm Ranulf, a laguz of the Beast Tribe, commander in the Gallian army and these days also the right hand to Gallia's future king, which is mostly a lot of diplomacy and being the adult in the room.

I have a cat form, which is not really secret from Jorgmund but they haven't seen it yet, and I'm not inclined to disclose how nasty it actually is until I have to, so: we're talking man-sized panther, big teeth, sharp claws. If they're picturing a fluffy kitten, well, who am I to shatter their illusions?

Oh god, being the adult in the room is the wooooooorst.

[Have a teenager! She looks intrigued.]

Are we talking like, ridiculous over-sized knife teeth, or reasonable I-am-a-big-cat teeth?

Laguz are kind of known for the short tempers, but Skrimir's made it into a bit of an art form.

They're reasonable teeth for a cat of my size, thankfully! Closing my mouth would be an awful pain otherwise.

Ehh, it ends up being a matter of learning how not to drool on yourself more than anything else. One more reason I don't casually hang around in that shape. Is it just big cats who can shift back and forth where you're from?

[Stacia hasn't told anyone about the cat-shifters in her reality. Only a couple people here know that other species are an option.]

Aside from the Beast Tribe - cats like me, tigers, lions, there's some wolves way out across the desert, but we only made contact with them pretty recently - there's also the Bird Tribe and the Dragon Tribe. I've worked pretty closely with the birds - well, mostly the hawks - but the dragons tend to keep to themselves.

[Hawks huh? Interesting. Stacia hasn't heard of hawk shifters ever existing in her world, but she supposes it's possible that they existed at some point. Maybe the Garou weren't even responsible for their extinction!]

That's cool. Good luck dealing with the wolves, if they're anything like the wolf-shifters in my world, they're probably cranky as hell.

Oh, I've already been thrown around a bit by their queen. No malice in it, just...eh, politics, but I'm certainly not lining up for a do-over.

[ He'll leave that to Tibarn. Those crazy fight-nutters deserve each other. ]

Yeah, that sounds incredibly familiar. Politics, violence, and way too many teeth.

Thankfully, we can all come together over the common ground of "not letting the world be smote by the wrath of an angry goddess."

For a very, uh. Weak value of "thankfully."

[ All things considered: it would probably be a lot better if they just went a few more rounds and the world didn't get turned to stone. ]

I don't think I've had to fight an angry goddess yet. Eldritch horror from beyond the bounds of space and time yes, angry goddess no.

Can't say I recommend it, but eldritch horrors don't sound much better, to be fair! And I don't even know what "eldritch" means, but it already paints a picture, you know?

[ There's no Lovecraft in Tellius, but man, those syllables just seem ominous. ]

"Eldritch" is basically something so weird and spooky that you look at it and you brain goes "you know, I think it's time to curl up in a ball and scream forever". The only reason I'm not screaming and gibbering is that I had something making it a little more comprehensible for me.

Still gives me major nightmares, though.

It seems like half the people in this rig can transform into some sort of animal. Is this a common mutation I've just been unaware of?

Can't speak for anyone but myself, since I'm flying solo here - but it's not a mutation, in my case. There are two races in my world. You have beorc, what most of you would call human, and then you have laguz like me. Aside from the beasts, there are bird and dragon tribes, as well.

I see. [ More xenos, wonderful. ] You do appear mostly human, however. So that is strange.

The Goddess works in mysterious ways! I'm certainly not the guy who'd know why she made us change shape.

[ If he weren't here, I mean, he could ask her. While they're trying to kill her in grand JRPG tradition. Oh well. ]

[ If there is one thing they can agree on it's murdering gods is a good pastime. ] I see. What is this... goddess?
