007: AMAs, Third Round

So, we've got a load of new people, and that means it's time for me to do the only thing it feels like I get on these comms to do anymore: AMAs.

For you new people, I find it helps when we get together and explain a little bit about ourselves, any powers we have, and our skillsets. That way we know what we're starting with and what we can build off of. So, please, come and introduce yourselves and be willing to answer questions.

Correct, ah, Miss Kerrigan. Mankind has risen and fallen several times over this period, though it has endured. Much knowledge was lost. I have a suspicion that several of the people here may reside in my past. Which is quite awkward.

[zerg_rush]

[Kerrigan fails to catch most of Loken's answer as her brain comes to a screeching halt over being called "Miss." No one's ever used a non-military honorific on her, and it takes her a second to remember the archaic form he's using.]

Uh. You can just call me Kerrigan. Everyone does.

If that is how you wish to be called then m... Kerrigan. Yes.

Yeah, it's fine. No need to be formal.

[Loken rarely stumbles verbally, but Kerrigan figures it's just residual awkwardness from the whole "psychic makeout" situation. That would make anyone feel awkward, really, so she doesn't take the opening to tease him about being awfully formal for someone she's gotten to first base with.]

I'm generally formal but... ah, I suppose we're past that, aren't we. You've seen inside my head, after all. And found a secret.

[Okay, so they're not pretending nothing happened.

Damn, conversations are so much easier when she's in range to cheat with telepathy.]

I'm a ghost. I deal with a lot of secrets. I can keep one more.

I am shamed to ask you to keep one. I despise secrets as a rule, as they have brought me nothing but grief, and this one shames me, I think. I was unaware I had the psyker mutation.

[zerg_rush]

[She holds up a hand.]

Hey, if you don't want to discuss it in public, it's fine. There's a lot of ground between that and outright denial. Besides, it's not like it's a character flaw.

Fair. Did you have any other questions you wished to ask of me.. Kerrigan?

[ He is learning, sort of. ]

Yeah, we got a little sidetracked, there.

[She snorts.]

I was busy being shocked you're from something like 30,000 years into the future. ...My future? I don't know how you talk about time travel.

[greyerrant]

It is disconcerting to me as well. I can sort of track how man has risen and fallen repeatedly in broad strokes, but so much data has been lost from old night, and I am a soldier, not a scholar, despite having a scholar as a tutor and friend.

I just...can't even imagine how much time that is. It's great that humanity lasted so long.

[greyerrant]

[ Loken smiles, but almost immediately looks sad. ] One thing that never changes is human tenacity, or the the amount of threat that we are under.

[zerg_rush]

It's always something.

[Kerrigan is way too young to sound so resigned.]

[greyerrant]

If there is one thing I have learned to my detriment, that while Xenos-breeds and other such things are terrible threats, humanity makes the greatest enemy of itself. Ambition and jealousy will tear at us, and make the light we carry as a torch gutter out before any alien ever could.

I...yeah.

[Well, that's depressing.]

I'll tell you about what Mengsk pulled sometime.

In person, I think. While I do not mind talking about the things that hurt me, this is not the place. I would imagine your story is not dissimilar. Seek me out when you are ready to share it.

[Her actions during that mess don't reflect all that well on her, but Kerrigan's only dimly aware of how normal people think about war, and that doesn't occur to her.]

Yeah. Okay.

[It doesn't sound dismissive, because she's smiling a bit.]

[ He wants to keep her talking but he doesn't know about what. Food, food is good.]

How does food for you here compare to your previous provisions? I almost starved before they realized my caloric intake is higher than baseline.

[In a fit of indignation about incompetence, Kerrigan doesn't answer the actual question.]

They didn't ask your BMR right off? You're two and half meters tall!

[Yeah, she's exaggerating the height a bit, but close enough.]

No. Much like my clothing. [ Coveralls with the arms and legs cut off because he is too big for them ] They seem to believe one size fits most is good enough.

[It's a disgusted scoff. Kerrigan's dealt with evil organizations before, but never incompetent ones.]

I will not say it has been an easy time. I hope your experiences have been better than mine, in that regard.

[zerg_rush]

Me? [Shrug.] It's been fine. I'd need more if I was in the field, but not while I'm sitting around here getting fat and slow.

["Fat and slow." She works out like four hours a day, minimum.]
