007: AMAs, Third Round
So, we've got a load of new people, and that means it's time for me to do the only thing it feels like I get on these comms to do anymore: AMAs.
For you new people, I find it helps when we get together and explain a little bit about ourselves, any powers we have, and our skillsets. That way we know what we're starting with and what we can build off of. So, please, come and introduce yourselves and be willing to answer questions.

Re: [action]
[He snuffles a deep snuffle and throws another bunched up wad of snotty toilet paper into the waste bin.]
I'll be fine with some rest. They said getting sick will probably happen a little off and on for a while.
[They'd said "for your first few months here, at minimum" but he doesn't want to repeat that. He doesn't want to entertain the idea that he'll be in another place like this for months more.]
[It's too much.]
So, yaaay, something to look forward to, I guess.

He takes a step into Guy's room, ready to step back out if Guy expresses any upset whatsoever at having someone come into his space. He offers him the little box.]
Reckoned you might could appreciate some snacks and things while you're recuperating. I know when I'm not feeling well that noisy mess hall's the last place I want to drag my carcass to.

[And Eep. At least with Eep, he'd sat with her by the fire and watched the delight on her face. But later with her family, there'd been the log for a while and Grug disliking him in the beginning. He'd had to win them all over.]
[And in the Capitol and the arenas, he'd often done something for people to be kind. Spared someone from a trap after questioning them in the beginning, mercy killed Mindy, earned his way into people's good graces with kindness or shared resources.]
[It was rare that someone came to him first and said, "Here have some food" or "How are you holding up?"]
[And he's never had reason to hide anything in his voice. He doesn't really know how to keep his emotions off his (nonexistent) sleeve.]
[And Dan can hear that in his soft, surprised:] Thank you.
[He takes the box into his hand to root through it.]
Does any of this have dairy? Because it tastes good but I can't digest it.

There are too many people from worlds like that here. Dan suspects it's because the Jorgmund know that trauma and desperation are easy to exploit, and that that's why you can't swing a cat among the new hires without hitting either an orphan or a former child soldier.]
No, none of that got dairy. I heard on a radio interview with an anthropologist that dairy came about way later than your time. The granola bars might could got nuts though.
[He glances at the other bed in the room, silently asking if it's okay for him to take a seat, or if Guy wants to recover from this head cold in peace.]
Jell-O probably predates your time too, but I promise that's just pure sugar.

[He opens the carton of broth and sniffs it, then starts chugging some down. It doesn't matter that it's room temp. When you grow up in a world without electricity, sometimes food doesn't always come at a temperature that's ideal.]
[He looks at the carton thoughtfully, taking a moment to read the labeling. He has to do it slowly, and mouths the sounds out like he's trying to connect the words to spoken language.]
This tastes good but what kind of chicken is able to make this? I thought they could only make eggs.

Smart folks. I'd bet ninety-five percent of the folks here never invented nothing in their whole lives, much less a way of sustainably feeding a family.
[Guy taking his time and slowly working out word by word is light years ahead of Dan, who still signs his name with an X. He smiles, genuinely, to see that Guy's got more capacity here than he would have assumed. It's a nice way to be proven wrong.]
Oh, ah...that's the meat and bones of the chicken boiled in water. [He bites his lip, hoping that Guy's not a vegetarian who just downed a bunch of bone broth unwarned. That would be silly in Guy's time period, wouldn't it? It's hard to get enough fuel to function on plants and nuts you find scavenging alone.]

I invented some of the same things Phil and Hope did, at about the same time, like fire and shoes, just not agriculture. Wish I'd thought of that one, it's pretty inspired.
[Inspired by the death of his family but he doesn't say that.]
[He keeps digging through the basket, shaking the little jello cups and looking entertained by the jiggling.]
Where I'm from is kind of...new. I guess is the best way of explaining it. There's room for new things to be made that already exist in other places.
