006: Group Introductions and AMAs - Second Round

[Armstrong hates to do this after so many people have introduced themselves in locked channels, but they at least need to put on a show of meeting for Jorgmund's sake.]

So, we've got a few new people here since the last time we did something like this. Time to get introductions done and over with. Just list your name, powers, if any, relevant facts, and, if you feel like it, answer reasonable questions that people have. We'll be able to function together more effectively if we know more about each other. Keep it sensible and try not to wheedle out any dark secrets.

Or, you know, old people can tell people why Taco Tuesday is the best.

What kind of monsters were you hunting, exactly?

Anything that was preying on innocent people. Chupacabras gone rogue, mimics, dragons - for complete transparency I have to include werewolves and vampires in that mix, although I hold no ill will towards our good folks here who fall into that category.

[Something about that makes him frown, but he bites his tongue. He's trying to be open-minded here. Alternate worlds and all that.]

You said "non-humans". I assume that means you're human?

Yeah. Good call, I should have clarified that. No powers, no genetic quirks except my charming smile.

Huh. Not a lot of humans in the business where I come from.

[There's Brand, but. Y'know. He and Brand are just a package deal.]

Oh yeah? Where you from?

New Atlantis. [And then, dryly:] Home of the monsters.

The only Atlantis I've been to is a casino in Reno, and I'm sure the monsters there were a different stripe. What's New Atlantis like? Do you have friends from there here?

It's...chaotic.

[Putting it mildly.]

Haven't seen or heard of anyone I know, though. Someone said they know people from old Atlantis, but I'm starting to wonder if it's actually at all the same place.

I wouldn't be surprised. New York apparently ain't the same as York in my world. Less a remodel than a relocation.

What? Where did New York go?

[Assuming it was even in the same place as the version he knows to begin with. It's trippy to think about.]

Oh, no! It didn't go anywhere, it's just that the original York is in England - I think - and the other one is in the United States. So there's no reason to believe Atlantis and New Atlantis are the same place.

[Fuck. Right. Give him a break, he's tired and has a headache trying to make sense of all this.]

Right, right. Yeah, New Atlantis is in Nantucket.

[Dan makes a "huh!" sound.] I've been to Massachusetts but never heard of New Atlantis there. I must be from one of those worlds impoverished by its absence.

That seems like the universal response so far. Or, multi-universal.

[He's slowly coming to terms with it.]

No old Atlantis either, though?

I'm not ruling it out. My world's got a whole underground of secret societies and hidden cities and even hidden dimensions. We kind of catch-all it by calling it The Weird, because we're extremely creative.

It's pretty solid as far as all-purpose words go.

[A part of him wants to ask if they've gone to space yet in Dan's land, if anyone's actually properly seen the Atlantic far enough away avoid any possible illusions or wards. But on the off chance if the answer is no and it also does exist, then that's as good as outing the whole country and he'd rather not risk that.]

We could have worse, but it seems a little pejorative to me, I guess.

Well, I can think of way worse words they could have used.

Probably, but I'm not fond of "it could be worse", I guess.

[He shrugs.]</small< I might just be desensitized. My partner's got a sailor's mouth, I get called worse on a daily basis.

Well, what terms would you prefer?

I'm Atlantean. That's the only proper word for anything that I've got. If you want a catch-all for that plus all the weres and vampires and fairies and merfolk and everything else in the world that humans used to think were fiction, then "weird" works fine for me.

As you like it! I guess that makes us The Boring.

If I get the stinkeye for calling any humans that, I'll send them your way.
