Good evening.
[There’s a woman speaking, tone clipped. The corporate jumpsuit hangs off her small frame, and her hair is swept up into an old-fashioned bun. Or so it seems - she’s standing a bit away from the screen, and it’s tilted at an odd angle.]
I am given to understand that this is how to contact my new coworkers? My name is Beatrice Brewer, at your service, and I assure you I am quite qualified. I am - was - an apprentice of the fifth circle in, ah, a collection of magi, have experience in a thrilling variety of crises, and am quite keen to get started on - [a heavy sigh, more notable for the fact that someone observant might catch that she doesn’t breathe] - this situation.
[There’s a long pause.]
Drat, is this bloody thing even on? Dreadful place, what sort of dog and pony show are they running, honestly. Stuff? Stuff? Of all the names?

Oh, you missed that part of the welcome committee presentation? I’ll catch you up. They’re going to fry us if we don’t figure out how to work together.

No, they gave the lecture. Grand glorious blah blah blah, shock one, shock two, keep up the bottom line. It just seems so self-defeating. At least the other apocalypses - I hate that's plural now - we got vetted first.
Sort of. Well. [Beatrice visibly reassess.] Alright, nevermind. Just how long has this operation been running, and what degree of 'frying' have they inflicted so far. There's not any more of those slideshows, right?

[ He sets the communicator to float in front of him and shrugs. ]
You’re asking the wrong guy. I got here a couple weeks ago. I haven’t seen any more slide shows.

This - is rather helpful, yes. The layout is even less eye-searing than the other one as well. Thank you... Saturday, correct?

[ She eyes up the change in perspective. There's genuine interest in her otherwise formal voice now. ]
Are you gifted with kinesis too? In any case, you're right in that they are never choosey in bystanders, poor souls, but. In my experience, the groups that inflict a crisis are choosy in recruitment, those that attempted to stand against them were not. Guess which was more successful. I'm not eager for a repeat.

[ Okay, she might not be so bad. ]
Depends on what kind of kinesis you’re talking about.
[ Where he’s from, almost every superhuman power ends in kinesis. ]
And I hate to break it to you, but that’s because humans are full of it. They only care about themselves, and I mean just themselves. They only care about humanity when they’re fear-mongered into it.
whoops it turns out i am very bad at inboxes
[He gets an almost friendly lip twitch for his effort.]
Hrm, well it is difficult to gauge what it is you're doing from this end of the screen. The bloody thing is already difficult enough to navigate. Is it telekinesis? My strengths lay partly there as well.
[The rest of what he says mostly just gets a resounding quiet for a minute or two, her fingers drumming somewhere off-screen.]
.. You needn't act as if I am a wide-eyed daisy fresh to the world, sir. You're hardly breaking the news that people are base, venal creatures tied to the comfort of inertia. Many I know even call them 'kine' – cattle. Then they themselves fall prey to the same follies, while pretending power elevates them. We breed our sins simply by being human. However, there's just no sense in being resigned to it.
No worries
Ric leans back in surprise at the telekinesis suggestion, but then it clicks that she means the comm. he rolls his eyes. ]
There’s a setting that makes it handsfree. Telekinesis not required.
[ He repeats the word “cattle” to himself. Ric has a dim view on humanity, but cattle might be a step too far. Still, he doesn’t rush to defend humans. ]
Is this the part of the speech where I see the light and commit myself to being the change that I want to see?

Speeches??
I don't do speeches. If that's what you wish for, there is bound to be a self-help book crammed somewhere around here with words like 'actualization'. By all means, follow your dreams. My point is that humanity doesn't change, so getting worked up about the set variables is about as productive as yelling at the tide. Or giving it speeches, good grief.
Also, seeing the light is overrated. For future reference.
[She is, also, evidently looking for the setting that he mentioned after I too misunderstood. She hasn't managed to find it yet, but she has managed to rotate her incoming feed video to him thrice, where it is now flipped and slightly squished down in one corner.]
