001: Group Introductions - TEXT

[During a lull in the party, Armstrong taps out a quick message to the network. Not that private one, he doesn't trust it. They can answer whenever they like, so long as he gets an answer. The trick would be wording it.]

So, we're all in this for now. You've had your welcome cake, but you can't meet everyone in a party, no matter how hard you try. But, since we've all been encouraged to sign up with Jorgmund, I figured now would be a good time to get some introductions done. Talk about any specialties we might have.

Share information that we feel comfortable sharing. This isn't to pressure anyone or to force out any dark secrets.

[Not where watchful eyes can see, at least.]

Besides, I prefer doing this to making a cute information sharing game.

So, please, make your own threads within this post to keep everything organized.

[Brainy smiles as well.]

He was invaluable to the team. Highly competent, excellent sense of humor, good at - what's the English idiom - shepherd dogging?

[It's herding cats, Brainy.]

[The smiles fades into something a little more thoughtful and grateful.]

Washington took part in a mission that saved my life, you know. I was captured and badly injured by some of our enemies. Had I received medical intervention even minutes later than I had, I would have very likely perished. I'll be eternally grateful for that.

"Herding cats?" He sharpened his skills on Blue Team.

[Brainy being friends with Wash overrides any xenophobia Emily had been feeling, and her demeanor loses that edge of wariness it had held at the beginning of their conversation.]

I'm not surprised Agent Washington was an asset, but you've really knocked me for a loop on Grif! I know he was covering his feelings of inadequacy and fear of failure by pretending not to care and avoiding any difficult tasks, but that behavior was deeply ingrained. I suppose removing him from the triad dynamics among him, Simmons, and Sarge enabled him to break free of unhealthy psychological patterns!

Indeed.

It was obvious his abrasiveness and avoidance of committing to any serious efforts at anything were because he was wary of allowing others to form social ties that could be exploited to cause harm or expectations of him that he could fail in meeting. I spoke to him about similar issues in cooperating with the team.

I came from...difficult circumstances, that made socialization and trust of other sentients a challenge. But I warmed up to my teammates in time and started to care about their welfare. I shared my experiences and I believe that insight and him making friends with several worthy individuals may have been a good influence.
